Dr. Carmen Traywick returned to her home state of South Carolina in 2009 to open May River Dermatology, LLC. Her mission was to become the premier provider of dermatologic services in the southeast. She clearly understood and valued the importance of providing patients with personal, timely, and professional care. In order to fulfill her mission, she created a practice that is welcoming and provides excellent professional care. She continually works with her staff to recognize that the experience for a patient starts from the first phone call, progresses through the visit, and is ongoing through the follow-up care. These golden standards of a patient’s experience is why the practice has been voted “Best Dermatologist” for six years in a row.
Dr. Traywick is a graduate of Emory Medical School in Atlanta, Georgia and has completed her Internship and Dermatology Residency at Emory University School of Medicine. She founded May River Dermatology with her husband in 2009. She has published several scholarly articles in national dermatologic journals on skin cancer and rare skin diseases. During her training, Dr. Traywick was confronted with the most complex and challenging dermatologic conditions. She has been trained by experts in the field of skin cancer surgery, cutaneous lymphoma, and autoimmune blistering diseases. She also trained under the guidance of several private practice doctors in the Atlanta area who are nationally-renowned for their expertise in cosmetic dermatology.
Dr. Traywick currently teaches medical students and residents Dermatologic surgery skills. She has lectured upcoming Dermatologists at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Dr. Traywick supports several charities including the Boys and Girls Club, the American Heart Association of Hilton Head, and many educational programs which teach children the importance of Sun Safety. Dr. Traywick enjoys spending her free time traveling with her husband, Bernie, and their three girls.
Dr. Sarradet joined the practice of May River Dermatology in 2014. Prior to joining the practice, Dr. Sarradet served as the head of Mohs Surgery at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, one of the nation’s top academic medical centers. Dr. Sarradet is a Board Certified Dermatologist and Fellowship trained in Mohs Micrographic Surgery. In his position at Emory, Dr. Sarradet trained new Dermatologists and Mohs surgeons.
His education includes medical school at Texas Tech University Health Science Center, and an internship in General Surgery at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. Residency was completed at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, and after that he completed a Fellowship in Mohs Surgery with Dr. David Goldberg in New York and New Jersey. Dr. Sarradet is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Board of Dermatology and the American College of Mohs Surgeons.
Dr. Hall is a board certified Dermatologist, and a graduate of The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. She completed her internship at US Naval Hospital Portsmouth, Virginia and her residency in Dermatology at The National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland. During her training, Dr. Hall studied under some of the most renown teachers in Dermatology at the National Institutes of Health as well as The Univeristy of Pennsylvania, in addition to military medicine specialists. She spent most of her early medical career as a US Naval Officer and Diving Medical officer, serving operational units in Guam as well as being involved and published in combat casualty care research, before finishing her time in active military service as the Chief of Medicine and Dermatology at Camp LeJeune Naval Hospital in North Carolina.
Dr. Hall is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, as well as member of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery and several other professional societies. Her position at May River Dermatology will be to provide the full spectrum of Medical Dermatology care, and to include in-office procedures and cosmetics. She enjoys spending her free time with her husband, Greg, and their six children as well as running, sailing, and traveling. She will be seeing patients in the Hilton Head and Bluffton offices.
Dr. McGuire is a Board Certified Dermatologist and fellowship trained in Mohs Micrographic Surgery. He is also an associate member of the American College of Mohs Surgery. At May River Dermatology, he provides surgical and medical dermatology services at both the Bluffton and Hilton Head offices. His specific interests in dermatology include surgical oncology, teledermatology, and the use of technology in medicine.
Sean graduated cum laude from Duke University with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and was selected into Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honors society. He went on to graduate with honors from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Honors Society in recognition of his academic excellence. He completed his intern year in Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He subsequently completed his dermatology training at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center, where he served as chief resident in his final year. Dr. McGuire received fellowship training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Skin Oncology at Penn State.
Dr. McGuire and his wife, Angelina, enjoy biking, hiking, and playing at the beach with their daughter Quinn, and miniature Australian Shepard, Finn.
Mandy Medlin graduated from Converse College in Spartanburg and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in English. She then went on to earn her Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston graduating with the highest honors.
Mandy is trained and specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of all skin, hair and nail disorders as well as the prevention of skin cancers. She has been in practice since 2005 in dermatology as well as plastic and reconstructive dermatology in both South Carolina and Florida. She is from Camden, SC, and enjoys spending time with her family which include her husband, Mat, daughter, and three dogs.
Mandy is certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants and is licensed to practice medicine through the South Carolina Medical Board under the direction and supervision of Dr. Carmen Traywick. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, and the South Carolina Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.
As a Board Certified Physician Assistant, Kristina joined May River Dermatology in June of 2012. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Florida in 2001, and completed her masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Florida College of Medicine in December of 2005. She worked for Joint Implant Surgeons in her hometown of Fort Myers, FL until moving to Hilton Head Island to join Dr Brand and Carolina Dermatology in 2007. Kristina is a standing member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the Society of Dermatologic Physician Assistants and the South Carolina Dermatology Association. She is married to Dr. Richard Ford, and has two children, Colton and Kennedy. She specializes in skin cancer screening and treatment, as well as evaluation and treatment of various dermatologic conditions including acne, eczema and psoriasis.
Board Certified Physician Assistant, William “Bill” Stephens, joined the May River Dermatology team in 2014. Bill graduated from the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, with a degree in Education. He then completed his Physician Assistant degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, and a master’s degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Allied Health Professions.
Bill is a current member of several medical organizations including: the American Academy of Physician Assistants, South Carolina Association of Physical Assistants, Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, and the South Carolina Medical Association.
Caitlin graduated from Charleston Southern University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and earned a Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from South University in Savannah, Georgia.
She trained with Dr. Dale Sarradet and Dr. Carmen Traywick in the evaluation and treatment of dermatologic conditions and skin cancer. Caitlin is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Society of Dermatologic Physician Assistants. She and her husband have two dogs, and a cat. She is a South Carolina native and enjoys boating and running.
Suzanne Wheeler-Deckelbaum specializes in general dermatology, and sees both adult and pediatric patients. She is a graduate of The University of Georgia and The University of South Carolina where she earned a Master of Science degree in Nursing, and completed her graduate training as a Nurse Practitioner. As a native of the Lowcountry, Suzanne is excited to move back to Hilton Head Island after practicing dermatology for four years in Raleigh, North Carolina. Suzanne comes to May River Dermatology with over 15 years of Dermatology experience, and was named “Best of Bluffton Dermatology Provider” in 2009 and 2010. She was also a dermatology keynote speaker at the SCNA – APRN annual Pharmacology for Advanced Practice conference.
Additionally, Suzanne is an active member of the Nurse Practitioner Society of the DNA; Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society; and, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. In her free time, Suzanne enjoys traveling and spending time with her friends & family, husband Rick, and their two dogs.
Bernie Traywick is the CEO for May River Dermatology, LLC. In this role Mr. Traywick oversees all financial and operational aspects of the practice.
Prior to this current role, Mr. Traywick served as Business Manager and Management Engineer for Perioperative Services at Emory Healthcare. He earned his Masters in Business Administration from Emory University and his Bachelor in Science in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech.
